Pricing

How much does tree removal cost in Dubuque, IA?

Most residential tree removals cost $500 to $2,500. Small jobs start around $300. Big oaks near houses with rigging required can hit $3,000-$5,000+. We give a real number on-site after seeing the tree.

Are estimates free?

Always. We come look at your tree, walk you through what's involved, and give you a real itemized estimate. No charge, no obligation, no high-pressure sales pitch.

Do you charge for stump grinding separately?

Yes — stump grinding is priced separately by default ($150-$400 per stump). If you want it bundled with removal, just say so when we quote and we'll include it.

Process

How long does a tree removal job take?

Single tree removals are usually a half-day to a full day. Multi-tree jobs or heavy rigging work runs 2-3 days. We give you a realistic time window in the estimate so you can plan.

What happens if it rains on the day of my job?

Light rain we work through. Heavy rain, lightning, or high winds we reschedule for safety. We call you the morning of if conditions look bad.

Do I need to be home during the work?

Not required for most jobs. We confirm the scope before starting, work professionally, and leave the site clean. If you want to be there to ask questions, that's fine too.

Insurance

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — Kutsch Tree Service is fully licensed and insured in Iowa, with cross-state coverage for Illinois and Wisconsin work. We can show proof of insurance before any job starts.

What if something gets damaged during the job?

Our insurance covers it. We're careful — proper rigging, drop zones, and tarps mean we rarely cause damage. If something does get hit, we make it right through our insurance, not by ducking the call.

Will my homeowner's insurance cover tree removal?

Only if the tree fell on a covered structure (house, garage, fence, vehicle). Trees that just fell in the yard usually aren't covered. Storm damage often is. We provide itemized estimates that adjusters accept.

Cleanup

Do you haul the wood away?

Default is yes — limbs get chipped and hauled, larger wood gets removed. If you want to keep firewood-sized rounds, just tell us and we'll stack them where you want at no extra charge.

Will my yard be a mess after?

No. Standard cleanup includes raking the work zone, blowing it out, removing all chipped material, and leaving no sawdust pile. Your neighbors shouldn't be able to tell we were there except for the missing tree.

What about the stump?

Stumps are not removed by default with tree removal — they're a separate service. If you want the stump ground out too, let us know when we quote and we'll bundle it.

Service Area

Do you serve my city?

We cover Dubuque, IA and a 30-mile radius — including Asbury, Peosta, Dyersville, Bellevue, Cascade, and into Illinois (Galena, East Dubuque) and Wisconsin (Platteville, Hazel Green). Not sure if you're in range? Call 563-580-4175 with your zip and we'll tell you.

How far do you travel?

Standard service area is 30 miles from Durango. We can travel further for larger jobs (lot clearing, multi-day projects). Travel-fee depends on distance and job size — we tell you upfront.

Do you offer same-day service?

For emergencies, yes — 24-hour emergency response. For non-emergency work, we usually book estimates within 24-48 hours and the actual job within 1-2 weeks depending on season.

Tree Health

Should this tree come down?

Hard to say without looking. Signs that suggest yes: visible cracks, dead branches over a third of the canopy, fungus at the base, major lean (especially new lean), roots lifting on one side, or the tree is very close to your house or power lines. Best move: call us for a free on-site look. We'll tell you straight.

When's the best time to trim trees?

Late winter (February-March) or late summer for most species. Trees are dormant or near it, so cuts heal cleanly. Hazard limbs and storm damage we'll handle any time of year — safety doesn't wait for the calendar.

Is my ash tree dead?

Most ash trees in the Dubuque area are dying or already dead from Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Signs: thinning canopy starting from the top, D-shaped exit holes on the bark, woodpecker damage, bark splitting. EAB-killed ash gets brittle fast — remove sooner rather than later for safety.
